Le Guen Puts Cameroon Players on Notice

BENGUELA (Reuters) - Cameroon coach Paul Le Guen put his squad on notice on Tuesday, saying he had yet to be convinced by many of the players he used at the African Nations Cup.

Cameroon were eliminated in Monday's quarter-final, losing 3-1 after extra-time to defending champions Egypt, and now look ahead to the World Cup in June when they have a tough group against Netherlands, Denmark and Japan.

Le Guen said his younger players had under-achieved in Angola.

"It is important for me to be sure I can rely on young players for the World Cup," said the Frenchman. "This would have been a good experience if we had won but there were a lot of players under-achieving."

"I will (now) go to watch a maximum number of games to try to be in a situation where I can select the best players. I will also watch games in Cameroon but the best Cameroonian players are competing in Europe.

"We were beaten by a good opponent who were really strong but it is hard to say we were beaten by the future champions," he said of Egypt, who now meet Algeria in Thursday's semi-final in Benguela.

Cameroon's next match is a friendly against Italy in Monte Carlo on March 3.
